The 2014 was a small production introduction year seeing grapes and clones chosen from two very distinct AVAs and two well known vineyards within those AVAs. Half of the grapes were sourced from a very small very well cared for vineyard in the Dundee Hills. They are grown at elevation and are known for producing wines with big forward structure and deep red/black fruit notes. Ageability is also an important trait from this vineyard. From Eola-Amity AVA I chose Methven Family Vineyard’s Pinot Noir clone 828. This is a notable clonal selection providing great tannic structure and big fruit while still maintaining the minerality and earthiness prized in this AVA. The Methven fruit also adds a nice acid balance in a year as hot as 2014. The blend of the two vineyards creates a wine full bodied and robust but with hints of elegance and minerality reminiscent of some of the great Burgundy Houses of France
